The course covers aspects of Modern World History from about 1900 to present. Within the broad framework the subject matter is made up of three mandatory units. Two of these are externally assessed, while the third is a controlled piece of assessment (internally assessed).

 

 

Unit A971: Aspects of International Relations, 1919-2005, and the chosen Depth Study

 

The inter-war years, 1919-39 – Paris Peace Treaties, League of Nations through the 1920s and 30s, Hitler’s foreign policy in the 1930s.

AND

Germany, 1918-45 – Weimar Germany, Rise of the Nazis, and Life in Nazi Germany.

 

 

Unit A972: British Depth Study

How was British Society Changed 1890-1918? – Poverty in the 1890s, Liberal Social Reforms, Suffrage Movement, impact of WWI

 

 

Unit A973: Historical Enquiry (controlled assessment)

A modern world study - The Arab-Israel conflict, 1948-present

 

 

Assessment:

Unit A971 – 45%, written paper, 2 hours, 75 marks (externally assessed)

Unit A972 – 30%, written paper, 1 ½ hours, 50 marks (externally assessed)

Unit A973 – 25%, 1 task, 50 marks (internally assessed)

 

 

Outside activities

In Year 11 there will be a five-day Tour of the Battlefields of the First World War. Guest speakers from various perspectives will also be invited to discuss the Arab –Israeli conflict with our students.
